Wedding Flowers with Personality
Wedding Flowers with Personality
There is something very special about choosing flowers for a wedding. Flowers can change the atmosphere of a room, bring a little personality into a space and help tell the story of the couple getting married.

Colour, Styling and
a Few Tips from the Heart
When we were invited to create the floral collections for The Glasshouse's Deluxe Summer Twilight Weddings in 2027, I wanted to offer couples a choice of styles that would feel beautiful, welcoming and, above all, personal. Some couples love bright colours and a little fun. Others prefer something soft and romantic, while some have always dreamed of a classic white wedding.

Wedding Flowers with Personality:
Colour, Styling and a Few Tips from the Heart
I don't think there is a right or wrong choice. The important thing is finding something that makes you smile when you walk into the room.
Here are the ideas behind our collections, along with a few things I've learnt over the years that I hope will help you when planning your own wedding flowers.
A Little Sunshine: Why I Love Yellow Wedding Flowers
I have to admit something straight away: yellow is my favourite colour.
It makes me smile. It reminds me of sunshine, happiness, warmth and all those lovely feelings that come with the beginning of a new season. So perhaps I've indulged myself a little by choosing yellow for one of our displays!
But there are some wonderful reasons to include yellow in wedding flowers. It is often associated with joy, hope, friendship and new beginnings. I think those are rather lovely sentiments to bring into a wedding day.
I also discovered something interesting while chatting with my mum about colours. Apparently, yellow is one of the first colours our eyes notice when we're looking at several colours together.
That helps explain why yellow flowers can make such a lovely impression when you walk into a room. They seem to draw your attention naturally, bringing a feeling of freshness and energy to the space.
I particularly love yellow for a summer wedding. It feels cheerful and welcoming without needing to be overly formal. And if you're wondering whether yellow is a little too bold, my advice would be to come and see it in person. Sometimes a colour you hadn't considered turns out to be the one you fall in love with.
Festival Flowers: A Little Colour and a Lot of Personality
For another of our summer designs, we wanted to create something with a slightly bohemian, festival-inspired feel.
The Glasshouse has beautiful rustic wooden banqueting tables, and I thought they would look wonderful with vibrant, wild-looking floral arrangements. I love the idea of flowers that feel joyful and a little less structured, with different colours working together to create a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere.
We chose soft cheesecloth chair drapes and table runners to complement the arrangements. The fabric has a lovely natural texture and gives everything a more carefree appearance. For me, this style is about creating a room that feels full of life.
I can imagine guests arriving, finding their seats, admiring the colours and immediately feeling that they are somewhere they can relax and enjoy themselves.
After all, that's what we want for a wedding, isn't it? A wonderful day where everyone feels happy, comfortable and part of the celebration.
Soft Pinks and Whites: A Romantic, Timeless Combination
I have always loved the softness of pink and white flowers together.
Pink is such a versatile colour. It can be delicate and romantic, or a little brighter and more playful, depending on the shade you choose. When you combine it with classic white roses and peonies, the overall effect is gentle, inviting and beautifully balanced.
One piece of advice I often give couples is to choose one main colour, one supporting colour and one accent colour. It's a simple little rule, but it can make such a difference.
Having a clear colour palette helps everything work together, from the flowers and table runners to the chair styling and other finishing touches. It also helps you avoid buying decorations simply because you happen to like them individually, only to discover later that they don't quite work together.
A little planning at the beginning can save you money, as well as making the finished room look more harmonious.
The Enduring Beauty of White Wedding Flowers
I also believe that couples should always have the option of a beautiful, classic white floral display. There is something wonderfully timeless about white wedding flowers.
White roses have long been associated with purity and new beginnings, while lilies and orchids bring their own sense of beauty and strength. Wedding trends come and go, but white flowers never seem to lose their appeal.
Think of the beautiful white bridal flowers we've seen through the generations, from Queen Victoria to Grace Kelly and Catherine, Princess of Wales. There is a reason this style has remained so popular.
For some couples, a white wedding is exactly what they have always imagined, and I think that's something to celebrate. You don't have to follow a new trend simply because it's fashionable. Sometimes the most beautiful choice is the one you've loved all along.
My Favourite Money-Saving Tip: Use Your Flowers More Than Once
Now, let's talk about something practical, because beautiful wedding styling doesn't have to mean spending money unnecessarily. One of my favourite tips is to move your floral arrangements around during the day.
For example, if you have a lovely arrangement on the registrar's table during your ceremony, why not move it to your top table for the wedding breakfast?
If you have a floral arch, it may be possible to move it to another area where it can provide a beautiful backdrop for photographs later in the day.
Many arrangements are designed to be moved, and it seems a shame to enjoy them for just one part of the celebration. This is particularly useful when your wedding venue has several different spaces like The Glasshouse at The Bull Hotel.
You might have your ceremony in one room, drinks in another area and your wedding breakfast somewhere else entirely. Rather than decorating each space separately, think about how your flowers could travel with you throughout the day.
It's a simple way to make the most of what you've bought or hired, and it can save a surprising amount of money.
Of course, it's always worth checking with your florist or stylist which arrangements can be moved safely.
Don't Let Your Flowers Take Over the Table
I know how tempting it is to add lots of lovely things to a wedding table.
Flowers, candles, favours, place cards, table numbers, decorative details. Before you know it, there's hardly any room left! But I always remind couples that their guests need to sit comfortably, enjoy their food and talk to one another.
Sometimes a little less really is more.
A beautiful centrepiece doesn't need to be enormous to make an impression. It simply needs to work with the table and the space around it. And I have one particularly important piece of advice for the top table.
Please don't hide yourselves behind your flowers!
I've seen beautiful arrangements that are simply too tall for the table they're sitting on. Your guests want to see you. They want to catch your expressions during the speeches, raise a glass to you and share those lovely moments.
You are the stars of the day, not the flowers.
So, if you're having an arrangement in front of you, choose something low enough that everyone can still see your faces. It's such a small detail, but it makes a real difference.
A Clever Little Trick for Transforming a Room
Here's another practical tip that couples might not have considered.
If your venue has a wall or an area you'd rather not draw attention to, a starlight curtain can be a wonderful solution. These curtains come in different widths, often around three or six metres, and some can be raised quite high to cover a large section of wall.
They create a beautiful twinkling backdrop and can completely change the appearance of an otherwise ordinary space.
They're also a relatively affordable styling option compared with some larger decorative installations. Sometimes it's not about adding more flowers. It's about looking at the room carefully and finding a simple way to make the whole space feel more inviting.
Fresh or Silk Flowers? Both Can Be Beautiful
I always tell couples not to feel that they have to choose fresh flowers for their wedding.
Beautiful silk flowers have become a wonderful alternative, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with choosing them. The quality available today is remarkable, with realistic colours, delicate textures and arrangements that can look just as lovely in photographs.
They're often more affordable, particularly for larger displays, and they're incredibly versatile. You can create beautiful arches, generous centrepieces and colourful arrangements without worrying about flowers wilting or certain varieties being out of season.
I also love mixing different shapes, heights and textures to create visual interest and give a room real personality. Fresh flowers will always have their own special charm, particularly their fragrance, but silk flowers offer so much creative freedom.
My advice? Choose what you love, what suits your budget and what makes your wedding feel like yours.
A Final Thought: Choose What Makes You Happy
If there's one thing I'd love couples to remember when choosing their wedding decorations, it's that your flowers should reflect you.
You might adore yellow, just as I do. You might love the carefree feeling of colourful festival flowers, the softness of pink and white, or the timeless elegance of an all-white arrangement.
Perhaps you'll discover a combination you hadn't even thought about before.
Whatever you choose, try to have a clear vision, make the most of your budget and remember that your guests are there to celebrate with you, not to count how many flowers you've put on the tables.
I want couples to walk into their wedding reception and feel happy with what they see. I want them to feel that the room belongs to them and that every detail has been chosen with care.
And most of all, I want them to be able to relax, enjoy their day and make wonderful memories with the people they love.
That's what makes wedding styling so rewarding for me.
With love,
Carrie
