Displayed throughout the venue, each wedding outfit will be exhibited alongside photographs from their big day, as well as a personal message sharing the story behind the attire. Completing each display, a bespoke bouquet, created by Chic Weddings, to complement each look alongside the garment, adding another layer of detail.

A selection of suppliers will be on hand to share with couples new trends, best colour pallets, candid photo opportunities and flavours that are guests favourites.

Everything we had discussed was there and ready, they had coordinated with other suppliers like the cake designer, photographer, florist etc. so everything was arranged and all we had to do was add our little touches that we had brought with us, like wedding favours, some colour specific decoration, table names and place setting name tags etc."

...is one of the most meaningful decisions you will make in the planning journey. A show-round is often the first moment you can picture the day taking shape - the space, the flow, the atmosphere. But it is also when couples unknowingly miss the chance to gather information that will shape the logistics, budget, and feel of your wedding day.

1. What does exclusive use actually include?

The phrase “exclusive use” varies dramatically between venues. Some mean exclusivity for the main event space only; others may allow hotel guests in adjacent areas or run several weddings on the same day. You should understand exactly which spaces are yours, how far the exclusivity extends, and whether it includes outdoor areas.

Also clarify whether exclusivity applies for the entire hire period or only on the wedding day itself. These details directly affect privacy, ambience, and how relaxed the day feels.

2. How long do we truly have the venue for?

This affects everything from décor decisions to supplier schedules. Some venues allow access only a few hours before the ceremony, which forces rushed set-ups and can restrict styling possibilities.

Ask specifically about:

Earliest access time for you and your suppliers
Whether set-up is available the day before
When you need to vacate the space
Whether breakdown must happen on the night or the next morning

A full two-day window can transform the planning experience, reducing stress and allowing both creativity and calm.

3. What is the maximum capacity, and the comfortable capacity?

There is a significant difference between licensed capacity and what feels luxurious or practical in reality. You need figures for each stage of the day: ceremony, dining, and evening. A room set for 150 dining guests may accommodate far fewer for a ceremony.

Hi! I’m Jo from JoHerbertMakes.

I am a live portrait illustrator for events and weddings. I paint portraits of your guests on your wedding day for them to take home as wedding favours, or for you to send out as personalised thank you cards after the day.

I started out as a watercolour artist, taking commissions of anything from houses, family portraits, pets and even dreams!

I then decided to extend my business by doing live illustration.

I have worked at The Glasshouse a few times already and am looking forward to another 5 weddings this year. The atmosphere there is always so fun and joyous. It’s such a perfectly set out venue with plenty of light and space and individual areas but all in close proximity, keeping the party together and thriving!

I love the atmosphere of the venue, and as an artist, I love all the gorgeous natural light! The team behind The Glasshouse are always so helpful and friendly and ready to help in any way they can. I always look forward to painting at The Glasshouse.

I loved the open day at The Glasshouse. It was great to be amongst a lovely bunch of suppliers. Everyone is their own small business so it feels very friendly and personable. Just the right vibe for such an intimate venue like The Glasshouse.

Get to know our suppliers: ALS Funktions

We are 3 DJs – Anton, Lee and Simon – and have all performed at weddings and celebrations for many years.

DJ AntZ first played at The Bull Hotel in 2017, helping with a couple of very last minute bookings. He quickly became a recommended supplier and, as his popularity rose, turned to his long time friends DJ Lee and DJ Simon James to help cover the increasing workload.

In 2022 we decided to join forces and launched ALS Funktions – 3 DJs with a collective over 60 years of experience, playing all music genres at many different venues and now providing a unique service where at least 1 DJ would be available for any event at The Bull Hotel.

We are all open format DJs with our own favourite music types and genres:

DJ AntZ grew up with Soul and Motown, Reggae and Ska of the 60s and 70s then, as a teenager, enjoyed the brit pop bands of the 90s – he was once the lead singer in an indie band!

DJ Lee has ALL the energy, from dance to pop he will keep dancing with you at 130 bpm and more. He started at the tender age of 10 and over time became the go to DJ at many scouting events across Kent. He is also an ‘international’ DJ when he spent a year in Australia, taking his decks with him and playing to crowds all over OZ!

DJ Simon James had an early start to music as his dad was a radio and mobile DJ in the 80s, which gave him a love of 70s and 80s disco and funk. He later became a very confident house DJ, bringing the biggest anthems played on the clubbers paradise island of Ibiza!

In 2023 we invested in a white LED starlit dancefloor to add that little extra to weddings and events at The Bull Hotel then, due to popular demand, added a second dancefloor in 2024. Together with our fun selfie pod, we can now provide that WOW factor for any celebration.

We always enjoy working at The Bull Hotel and have a special relationship with the fantastic team – Leigh Anne, Emma, Catherine and Chloe – as well as all the waiting staff. They always make sure we are ok, providing us with a slice of pizza from the buffet!

DJing is our passion and we have been very lucky to work at such a great venue, with such wonderful people, creating life long memories along with pure vibes and magic moments on the dancefloor!

Backdrops are traditionally great options for creating focal points in the ceremony area, we have a wide variety ranging from hexagonal to rectangular structures along with classics like our free-standing heart . We also offer more subtle props such as flickering candles or lanterns . These are amazing at lining the aisle providing a soft and safe glow to the ceremony. On top of this, we have many stand-alone props that offer great functionality, such as our SAM Stand which can hold ceremony confetti.

Hi, I’m Nicola, a Kent wedding photographer for best friends who can’t wait to marry each other, surrounded by their very best people and The Buttery and Glasshouse is one of my favourite venues. I feel particularly qualified to talk to you about getting married at The Buttery and Glasshouse because not only am I one of their recommended wedding photographers having captured around 50 gorgeous weddings there but I also got married there myself!

A bit about me

I live in the neighbouring village of Borough Green, about a 5 minute drive away from The Buttery & Glasshouse with my husband, daughter, step sons and our springer spaniel called Nell. My favourite way to spend a day would involve a long dog walk with the family and a stop at a good pub or restaurant, The Bull being one of our favourites, and an evening spent curled up binging on a box set.

What is it like to work with me?

Nicola Dawson Photography is now 8 years old. If you’re a little worried about being in front of the camera but want natural and relaxed wedding photographs then you are my perfect couple. I love nothing more than proving that the experience of having your wedding photographs taken is nowhere near as awkward or frightening as you thought it might be.

Most of the day I photograph in an unobtrusive way and capture your wedding as it unfolds, naturally and beautifully, full of joy and smiles. But when it comes to your portraits I know that some gentle prompts to encourage you to focus on each other is the key to those relaxed, authentic moments. Not poses but real, love-filled interactions between you.

What I love about The Buttery & Glasshouse

I married at The Buttery in 2016. I was drawn to the feeling of seclusion it had nestled in the gorgeous village of Wrotham. It was relaxed and unpretentious which was perfect for our intimate ceremony. Almost 10 years on this amazing wedding venue still has that secluded, laid back feeling. But now with the extraordinary addition of the Glasshouse. What a space?! It stunningly blends the old with the new and the inside with the outside and absolutely elevates your wedding experience.

Of course I can’t miss chatting about the amazing team. They are completely dedicated to making a wedding day exactly what a couple wants. They’re accommodating, supportive, flexible and experts in the smooth running of the whole day. And as for the food…well… It's absolutely delicious.

When a venue is run as smoothly as here, it makes my job so much easier. I can tru st that my couples will be so well looked after and have the best time which means that their gallery will be its absolute best too.

Your wedding photography at The Glasshouse

Photographing weddings at The Glasshouse and Buttery is a joy. You can take advantage of the gorgeous bridal suite to get ready meaning no risk of stressful travelling logistics in the morning. With rooms for your partner to get ready too it means that I can nip between the two of you to capture you both.

The warmth and richness of my edit compliments the cosy feel in the Buttery for your ceremony. And the terrace provides a gorgeous backdrop for your drinks reception and all those lovely candid moments of your guests celebrating with you. The glasshouse wedding breakfast means no time lost having to change the use of the space and the light in there is dreamy.

And I know that on first glance you might wonder where your wedding portraits will be taken. This is where my experience and local knowledge comes into its own. After capturing you both at the front of the gorgeous hotel we can take a short stroll through the village to my favourite spots and back drops. And if we are set for a sunny evening there is a stunning field just a couple of minutes drive away to take a timeout and take in the views of the west Kent countryside as the sun starts to set. I think that is a perfect way to spend a few moments together the evening of your wedding day.

Could this American trend be making its way over to this side of the pond?

When all the wedding planning has been done and the big day draws near, you might want to show appreciation to your relatives and friends for their support with some informal toasts and wholesome meal.

One way to do this could be with a rehearsal dinner and although this tradition may be bigger in the US, it doesn’t mean you cannot hold one as well.

Not sure what this is? About.com’s Nina Callaway explains it is a relaxed, casual meal when family, friends and everyone involved in the occasion can meet, chat and get to know each other before they see their loved ones marry.

As the expert explains, this is a long-standing notion, but that does not mean you cannot do things your own way and make the meal as individual as the wedding itself.

Similarly, weddingvendors.com states that “while the wedding is shrouded in traditions and expectations, the rehearsal dinner is typically a relaxed atmosphere with no set agendas”.

Ms Callaway also explains, it does not have to be an expensive affair. She says that they do not have to be “some grand formal thing, you may want to hold a meal in a local pub with some delicious, homemade dishes”.

The wedding rehearsal dinner is a great opportunity to give gifts to bridesmaids and ushers etc, if you don’t want to do this on the morning of the wedding, or if you’ve bought them something like jewellery or cufflinks to wear on the day.

And if you’re still unsure whether or not a rehearsal dinner is for you, perhaps Ms Callaway can convince you with a few final words. She says: “You’re going to need to eat on that night anyway, why not eat with your loved ones?”

The Bull Hotel Wins Channel 4’s Four in a Bed

Four in a Bed Winners

Scored as the perfect stay and the best breakfast of the competition, The Bull Hotel won Four in a Bed, a British reality television show that has been airing on Channel 4. The show involves four B&B owners, who take turns to stay with one another and pay what they consider fair for their stay.

“We loved it, it was absolutely nerve wracking, but we loved it!” says The Bull owner Lygia Fontanella and Mary Murray, the breakfast chef who became the star of series 13 of Four in a Bed, which was broadcast in October last year.

One year later and Mary is still being stopped on the way home, at the supermarket, in Kings Lynn and even in a restaurant in Norfolk. Guests travel from all parts of the UK just to stay in one of the boutique bedrooms at The Bull and try Mary’s fresh, cooked-to-order English breakfast which became famous during the Channel 4 reality show. Also, more and more wedding couples seems to want ‘TV star’ Mary to cook their wedding breakfast.

“The filming itself took over two weeks with over 100 hours of filming for each 23-minute programme: it was absolutely exhausting!” Says Mary. “Suddenly, tiny faults became amplified into arguments worthy of a war. But by the end of it – and I guess because we won – we just had such a good time and we met some really lovely hard-working people.”

What makes Lyndsay's cakes so unique?

Based in Kent, Lyndsay is the lady behind these unique cakes and is even known within the celebrity world, making cakes for ITV’s Love Your Weekend also providing celebration cakes for celebrities like Kimberly Wyatt from the Pussycat Dolls, Gabby Dawn Allen (Love Island) and JB from JLS.

The eggs

Lyndsay is the proud owner of her own flock of Muscovy ducks and hens. Gladys, Penelope and Jemima, some of the happy birds grown in this beautiful garden in Kent, fed directly from Lyndsay’s veggie patch while waddling her garden in the summer months. The results are vibrant coloured, nutritious and simply delicious eggs that take Lyndsay’s wedding cakes into an extraordinary concept of commitment to sustainability and taste.

Being the first baker to use her own free-range duck eggs in Kent, her girls are her pride and joy and without them her life wouldn’t be the same.

“There is no doubt about it, baking and creating cakes ignites my soul, it’s my passion. I eat, sleep and live cake!” says Lyndsay. “Our ducks and hens have a very happy life and their beautiful eggs help me create the most amazing cakes for our clients.”

This is why she sees many people booking her for the extraordinary concept behind her business, and, of course, for the beauty and sculpture-like cake decoration Lyndsay painstakingly creates in her kitchen slash studio.

Did you know? The collective nouns for ducks while on the water include a raft and paddling; while on the ground, they can be called a waddling, badelynge, and badling of ducks.
